Sanitary Pad

Misclassified as "Adult Content"

Bodyform is a feminine hygiene brand known for challenging taboos and promoting the normalisation of women's health. However, one of its advertisements (left), featuring terms such as "menstrual cycle" along with images of sanitary pads and blood, was rejected by Meta as "adult content" and only approved after adding an 18+ warning. This decision contradicts reality, as millions of people under the age of 18 are menstruated. Menstruation is a normal biological process and should not be sexualised.

However, this is not an isolated case. On platforms such as X and TikTok, posts using correct anatomical terminology have been flagged as "sexual," and even educational campaigns about the menstrual cycle have been criticised for "implied genital exposure." These examples demonstrate the systematic over-censorship of women's health content.

In contrast, content featuring sexualised representations of women's bodies—even with visible nudity—can still be approved and published on the same platforms (right). This contrast highlights a clear double standard in moderation: sexualised content is permitted, while non-sexual, educational women's health content is restricted.
